I'm Awake 02:48
Woke up to an unnerving sound The children outside where all gone and the ground was neglected and I was ashamed to have been at the scene I'm watching these people just wander around Their eyes in a glaze, their heads to the ground Avoiding the contact that we as the human might need But I'm awake, I'm in love, I've got silver in my blood I can't live forever but I'm sure as hell gonna try and when this sun sets over my head, thats as real as it can get I'm not dragging a life of regret to my grave Void of the truth and some old world style We've lost all our swagger and never get high and wait for the moment that last breath caresses our lips Singularity will come one day Won't think for ourselves and the records won't play I'll be screaming in silence just look up and look around Cause I'm awake, I'm in love I've got silver in my blood I can't live forever, but I'm sure as hell gonna try and this sun sets over my head That's as real as it can get not dragging a life of regret to my grave I'm awake, I'm in love I've got music in my blood I can't live forever but I'm sure as hell gonna try and the sun sets over my head that's as real as it can get I'm not dragging a life of regret to my grave I'm awake, I'm in love, I've got silver in my blood

I'm taking the high road Digging out of this ditch In the valley below, you know it's hard to breathe and I can't see shit Back home they're reading the classics Inflating the facts The mystery of the old and the mystery of the wise keeps them coming back It's been dying to rain and this well is dryer than it's ever been I'm digging deep through this dust and the sand and my head stays thirsty It's been dying to rain It's been dying to rain and this well is dryer than it's ever been I'm digging deep through this dust and the sand and my head stays thirsty It's been dying to rain

High was the way We kept driving to the East Stopped for gas the mind was thirsty Chocked the dust and washed the windows down Stopped for lunch the greasy diner Slice of life don't get much finer here Don't get much finer here

6 am and the coffee is on Look out the window into the dawn Throw on a coat and face that cold, bright, bitter day Down that gravel road the land stretches flat and the smell of the springtime pines brings you back to that woman you loved seems so damn long ago It's the same old story different day Folks get by in different ways Driving down a backroad lying on the hood staring into space Its just the same old story different day Same old story different day The sky burns red over the golden fields and the rain won't come and the summer is near you're miles from town and the souls that need you the most The records on bouncing off the wall The sweet melody carries down the hall The lights are dimmed and your shadow's your only friend It's the same old story different day Folks get by in different ways Driving down a backroad lying on the hood staring into space Its just the same old story different day Same old story different day

Mother Are you feeling better Did the air betray your lungs Or the other way around? For five long days my body had a fever Time stood still like a black hole in my mind But I've been waiting in the wings Watching over everything But it's not safe here so I'll pack my things And I'll be living in a pocket behind the sun Living in a pocket behind the sun Father, I'm sorry about your brother The world won't be the same with Johnny not around I've been thinking there must be something better A place where we can go where trouble stays behind But I've been waiting in the wings Watching over everything But it's not safe here so I'll pack my things And I'll be living in a pocket behind the sun Living in a pocket behind the sun Here I am living in a pocket behind the sun The air is clean, the water is warm and sadness doesn't come You can come and bring your things there's room for all of us The war's been won We're all up here in the pocket behind the sun

I was driving down that old, red road Just a checking on my shine Yeah, I was driving down that old, red road just a checking on my shine Ahh you know that lawman he never far behing I'll be cooking through the night When that rain came down it flooded- washed my worries away When that rain came down it flooded - washed my worries away Ahh you know them moonshine blues keep a good man alive We be sipping every day (since we was twelve)

Daylight is running out on me and I dont know if there's gonna be much I took a shortcut down through the mountains to the valley where the sagebrush dries I walked the rivers edge until the water ran dry Headed North then followed the sky Walked this dusty trail until my feet bleed red With a desperate look in my eye You said to meet you when the world thaws out in Spring When the cherry blossoms scatter like the snow I did my best to get there got caught up in Shaniko Lost my way but never lost the thought of you Lost my way but never lost the thought of you You know my dreams aren't made of gold, don't always dream in color and I can't predict the bad things that might come I've been known to believe in one thing or the other But I will catch you when you're falling I will catch you when you're falling

2000 Miles 03:15
Said goodbye with a fake, half-smile Heading 2000 miles away The Black Hills rolled into the plains and there we drove for days They said son don't worry about a thing, we gonna be alright The crickets sang with all they had and slipped into the night The days they came the days they went and summer lost to fall The leaves died slowly on the stem The wind he took them all This cold, sharp pain deep in my bones I miss my only home The prodigal son left them some A whisper on the phone The watchman says the garden died last summer The sun dried up the worry in this town The shallow graves can't quite contain the humor We were wrong and I'm 2000 miles away The watchman says the garden died last summer The sun dried up the worry in this town The shallow graves can't quite contain the humor We were wrong and I'm 2000 miles away

The War 03:16
Out of the black into the world again Skin burned deep and eyes blind white Running reckless down the trails once more Wilted leaves and twisted thorns inside I was lost for day returned to find that things had changed The lines were crossed The weapons drawn It seems you've started a war Opened the door to the darkest of days Where nothing shines bright and sun doesn't radiate They say the enemy kills with a smile on his face It's a look in your eye It's a message you've started a war
10.
I'm awake I'm alive here World keeps spinning round and round We've got what it takes to survive here The Northern wind The distance between Life, the smallest moment The universal flash The grains of sand Time- he's a hero Saving us from ourselves

They threw us in Into the wilderness We walked down Hand in hand Ready for the wold But if we stand up and fight this Will the levy break flooding us all? We were dancing in the cold wind Like two feathers caught in a storm I thought this was a mistake I've got my reasons tucked away Beneath this hollow sky But if we stand up and fight this Will the levy break flooding us all? We were dancing in the cold wind Like two feathers caught in a storm I thought this was a mistake I've got my reasons tucked away Beneath this hollow sky
